There is currently only four comics: Ziggy, Herman, Reality Check, and Speed Bump.  This module is going to be updated a few times, so expect it to change.  I am going to look into adding more comics.  The comic you choose is saved as a user preference.

Calvin and Hobbes please!
– convex 55 months ago
I can add them, Calvin and such, The problem is i am limited by width, and if i lower the picture size to fit you wont be able to read it.  Any suggestions on that problem?
– Grimmthething 55 months ago
A horizontal scroll bar wouldn't be that bad for a comic.  and if it was inlined you could do a mouseover thing.  Or you could do some fancy scrolling thing with javascript, i.e. mouse over the sides and it scrolls.
– Caleb E 55 months ago
Thanks for the ideas Caleb, i will work on that today.
– Grimmthething 55 months ago
Updated with Calvin and Hobbes. Still working on it. More Comics very soon, and nicer interface as i figure it out.
– Grimmthething 55 months ago
You are the man
– convex 55 months ago
sometimes it is not working, the "next, before" <> signs from your other module "google modules" are actually showing up in the comics module and no picture. That is not happening all the time though!
– convex 55 months ago
oops, 'google modules' is actually Caleb's sorry about that
– convex 55 months ago
ok it seems that problem only happens when the two mentioned modules are both inline.
– convex 55 months ago
Yes, i have noticed that problem also convex, but i have noticed it with others besides mine.
– Grimmthething 55 months ago
I'm using firefox 1.0.4 on linux.
The comic shows up, but I don't see any way to scroll it horizontally.
Is there supposed to be scroll-bar or something?
– joelus 55 months ago
Hmm, it is working fine on mine, but windows and firefox 1.5.  Did you try inline?
– Grimmthething 55 months ago
well it's pretty strange Grimmthething because it seems to work sometimes but not others and I've been trying to figure out why but no idea. Sometimes there is no scrollbar and I just refresh the page and the scrollbar is there! this morning there are 2 vertical scrollbars next to each other and i have to scroll down the outer one to get the horizontal scroll bar but it's working!

Good module, what about the boondocks
– E. 55 months ago
its updated, any more anyone wants?
– Grimmthething 55 months ago
How about dilbert?

And here is an idea.  I don't know if this is possible, but since the comic is a link anyway, couldn't you put an inline css in the anchor so that when you hover the zorder changes so the whole comic appears?  You know, sort of like a css popup?
– norminnorman 54 months ago
I added dilbert. While i was adding it i was having a little problem. Let me know if you see any bugs.  Also i was trying the pop-up type thing and having trouble with it. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

Any other comics to add?
– Grimmthething 54 months ago
SWEET!  Thanks.  It seems to work perfectly thus far.

I dunno how these modules work, but I'll see if I can come up with something to help  you.  I've got a web page with CSS tooltips that use the hover feature in a link, but I use an external stylesheet.  I assume this might not work in a module but I don't know.
– norminnorman 54 months ago
Garfield please. :)
– Steven 54 months ago
Never mind! It's in there! :)
– Steven 54 months ago
I tried getting the popup to work this weekend.  I can get the image to pop up in front (at least in firefox), but all of the text from the other modules show up on top of it.  And besides that if things aren't lined up perfectly you get a nice little annoying jumping around effect.

my point is my feeble skills were of no help for my suggestion.
– norminnorman 54 months ago
norminnorman can you give me the source for that? Maybe i can play with it a bit.  If so shoot me an email at grimmthething@gmail.com
– Grimmthething 54 months ago
OK.
– norminnorman 54 months ago
I sent you what I have.  Good luck with it.
– norminnorman 54 months ago
how do I add your module to my google page? Following the regular way, your module says

"Module Has Moved To: www.grimmthething.com/googmods/comics.xm... Please add that link as it is permanent."

Where do I add your link?
– konix 53 months ago
Grimmthething, I have some experience now with 2 different google modules, and I think I can help you write some CSS to pop up the comics, and make this module awesome. Unfortunately I am leaving until Monday, but if you haven't figured it out by then, I will see what I can do. Good work so far. :)
– Curtis G 53 months ago
That would be great. I have pretty much put that on hold because i didn't know what i was doing, but the code is there for you to look at.
– Grimmthething 53 months ago
I am working on getting the new link up here, in the meantime you will see i changed the message you get now when you add this one.

Otherwise go to your homepage and click on "Add Content" in the upper left corner, then put this link in the textbox near the bottom:
www.grimmthething.com/googmods/comics.xm...
– Grimmthething 53 months ago
Can you add "Pickles" please?
– Ted 53 months ago
You Bet! Pickles is added.
– Grimmthething 53 months ago
Somehow i am getting the **same** "Pickles" comics for the last 4 days, any idea? It is Ok for other comics though.
– Ted 53 months ago
I will look into it next week. i am going to do a major overhaul on the entire module next week.
– Grimmthething 53 months ago
I am hoping that when this "major overhaul" is over that the comics will stop showing up behind other columns?
– KD 52 months ago
It isn't possible. The columns can not be widened (as far as i know) and the comic can not be reduced in size enough (or you cant read it). So the options are to show a scrollbar, or find a way to have some kind of popup. I would rather not do the latter.  I rewrote all the code in the module, which fixed some bugs.  However what ever problems there are i don't know how to deal with.
– Grimmthething 52 months ago
Oh I understand. The module really is great. I don't mind having a scroll bar. But as shown the vertical scroll bar ends up behind the next column over so I have to use it 'in between the other columns text'. I guess my comment was in regards to moving the scroll bar to the left a little bit more. If not that is ok. GREAT JOB!!! No matter what the module is sticking around on my home page for many months to come.
– KD 52 months ago
KD, thanks for the note. Take a look at the inlining, you might try turning inline on, or off depending.  That might solve your problem.
– Grimmthething 52 months ago
Comics don't seem to be updating.. think its since the new ver of Firefox.. Tried inlining on and off.. any ideas? My fav module BTW.
– KoS 51 months ago
Hey! Its all working again! :-) Think Google changed something... Cool!
– KoS 51 months ago
Now it can't find Dilbert, but selecting Foxtrot shows: Dilbert, Peanuts, Betty, and Nancy...
– Skeeterfood 51 months ago
Can you please fix your module because it shows Calvin and Hobbes, and Cyanide and Happiness as being down. Also to fix your bandwidth trouble, I'm not sure it it'll help, but there's free web-hosting, by Google too (Page Creator).
