This is based on the documented module using the API (googlemodules.com/module/570/) - however, uses work arounds for auto-authentication and calendar detection.  It is a stable version, but it is based on undocumented and non-official code.  In other words - it is BETA.

It is blazing fast compared to the other module and has much less setup for the multi-view

Thanks and enjoy

This calendar is TIGHT... I've switched
– Bill 31 months ago
Much Better! Now I can actually USE it!
– Louis 31 months ago
This module is picking up calendars that aren't even in my list. They were calendars I added and removed right away.

It also seems to load much slower than the other calendar module, but I'm only using it to display one calendar so maybe that's a feature of showing multiple calendars?
– Nick 31 months ago
Nick -
I am working through the kinks of the deleted calendars - should be all set by tomorrow -

as for the load time - for a single, not event heavy calendar - the original version will probably work best.  This one loads and changes multiple calendars very quickly.

thanks
– cgm 31 months ago
This version is awesome, I've switched.  It has resolved all the problems I saw with the 1st version, which I know weren't  your doing.

Great work, thanks!
– Steve 31 months ago
hezink8/Chris -

Do you/Can you access the calendar from:
calendar.google.co.uk  -or-
www.google.co.uk/calendar
(I do not seem to be able to)

if you can not - and it only works from www.google.com/calendar - then, unfortunately, IG needs to run on www.google.com because that is where I get my auth tokens from, and the browser will not let me get them from a different domain (uk / com)

MI quick event probably will fail as well if it is run on co.uk/ig

Thanks -
Chris
– cgm 31 months ago
I am experiencing the same problems. The previous version used to produce a warning of a mismatched URL on certificate (requesting info from .com when on the .co.uk domain). I don't get the warning with this version, but I don't get my GCal either!

my workaround at the moment is to remove all google.co.uk/.com cookies to prevent the constant redirecting, and set up .com/ig instead of .co.uk/ig
– Slimchandi 31 months ago
testing out some updates (should push by the AM) -
better calendar detection (no more deleted/removed calendars)

and I have added an AUTH message when auth fails and you arent on .com/ig

– cgm 31 months ago
calendar.google.co.uk  and www.google.co.uk/calendar don't work. The calendar, mail links from the co.uk home page go to the .com site. I think that it is only the home and search pages that have nationalized versions.
– Chris 31 months ago
having the same issues with the com.au (australian) version too
– linus 31 months ago
This rocks. Works flawlessly for me in FF 1.5.03 for google uk sites. Nice 1.
– Bonstio 31 months ago
i loved the first version (for working and for simply existing - even if i had to switch cals).

i love the idea of this version too, but i just keep getting the following:

Calendar Information not retrieved.
TimeZone: America/Chicago
Retrieving Calendar Info...

...and it just hangs there. i've logged out and in to .com/ig and also to the calendar page itself and restarted the browser (firefox 1.5.0.3).

any suggestions? (and thanks again!)
– jer0mey 31 months ago
jer0mey - that is a strange place for it to hang - means, it got your authentication (the hard part) - but wasnt able to auto-detect any calendar info -

If you could - shoot me an email (above) and I will send you a debug link - I know the change that is causing this, but it was also the change that allows for determining deleted cals.
– cgm 31 months ago
This if AMAZING!!!! Thanks dude!
– Michael 31 months ago
Thanks to Chris for fixing my issue so quickly! This is a truly Useful, Awesome module.

v.1.04c
narrowing down on the 'deleted/removed' calendars thanks to Jer0mey and Chris H.
little tweaks here and there

Thanks again for everyones help and feedback
– cgm 31 months ago
This is a great module. It's actually the only non-google one I use.  However, today is has been hanging on me.  I am using vM2.1.04c. It gets down to "Analyzing Calendars" and then it just stops.  It was working before.  any ideas?

Thanks!
Christopher
– Christopher 31 months ago
Christopher -
that is definately a strange place to stop - as there is another status message not to far past that - so something is dying...

Can you shoot me an email (above) and I will send you a debug version link - we can diagnose where exactly it is dying ---

Initially - if you are using firefox  - under tools - JS CONSOLE - let me know if there are any warning caused by the module in there -

thanks

cgm, my homepage is set to www.google.com/ig. im still having the same problem, displaying

Try Google IG at www.google.com/ig
Please First Login To Google Calendar.
Authentication Failed

same thing on ie and firefox

and authentication takes a long while saying
Checking Authentication...

cheers
– hezink8 31 months ago
hezink8 - I added to the status message what the domain the browser is saying you are in (version .04e).  You should only have seen "Try Google IG at www.google.com/ig " if the browser is saying you are in a different domain -

so - in other words, the module will tell you what domain it thinks you are in.  My guess here, is (as described above) you may think you are in .com - but the cookies are doing something to redirect you.

let me know what the message says with this little update change

– cgm 31 months ago
Having sorted out using google.com/ig instead of .co.uk, everything seems to work fine apart from the first time visiting ig after opening the browser. Is this normal? To get google calendar to appear, I either have to refresh once on the /ig page, or go to a new page and then back. I'm on FF 1.5.0.3
– Slimchandi 31 months ago
re: authentication
that is the expected behaviour, but not the ideal behaviour.  I just put a small tweak in there to have the module try authenticating a second time after a short pause if the first failed.  Hoperfully that will achieve a nice balance for using the module without being annoying.
– cgm 31 months ago
I'm stupid.  I'm new to all these cool Google gadgets.  Is there a reason why this isn't showing up on my mobile personalized page?  Ty for your patience :)
– robyn 31 months ago
retry in 3,2,1, still authentication fails. could be what you're saying, if i go to google.com i have a link, go to google malta (google.com.mt). ill reset my cookies
– hezink8 31 months ago
cookies reset, same thing. i dont know whats happening. mark 1 howerever did authentication without problems
– hezink8 31 months ago
Retry in 3,2,1 sorts it for me. Keep up the good work!
– Slimchandi 31 months ago
authentication is successful after the retries. could the countdown be removed completely and just retry after it recieves unsuccessful error?

can it be done on the first pass without any retries?
– hezink8 31 months ago
I think it is a wonderful application. I works great with a single calendar, but I am having problems gettign it it o show up with multiple calendars. jAm I doing something wrong?
– Liz 31 months ago
hezink - I think the countdown is needed as an indication that something is about to happen - it does work on the first pass, but for some computer/browser setups, it doesnt seem to be able to authenticate quick enough

Liz - I am assuming you are using the MII version with auto detection??  If so - is there no legend screen toggle next to the clock?? as in the picture above?
– cgm 31 months ago
well, it's not authenticating..tha's the problem
– Liz 31 months ago
Liz - if you are using the MII version, nothing will work if there is no authentication.

So your previous comment about a single calendar would not apply to MII that does not authentication.  If you are using:

googlemodules.com/module/570/

then you need to set up your individual calendars using the bookmark method - but there is no authentication which occurs
– cgm 31 months ago
apparently, it's failing to retrieve my bookmarks
– Liz 31 months ago
i doesn't make any difference if i know there's something about to happen, i am not going behind the code to see what's happening. my aim is to have an agenda that appears on the page, and the faster the better.

thanks again ;) your work is very much appreciated over here
– hezink8 31 months ago
Great work. For the record I've never been able to get the quick add to work. I've tested with both FF and IE7. The Detail does work though.

Thanks - Frank
– Frank 31 months ago
I can't use 'quick add' to add events.
After I press the '+' button. It only shows like below, but I don't see the event be added in canledar

*******************************
Preparing Event For Google
Google Requested Event.
Submitting 'test' To Google.
– boblu 31 months ago
Frank - what is the error/issue you are getting.

Boblu + Frank (if you can get this far) : does adding an event:
Lunch Tomorrow at noon

create the event properly?

– cgm 31 months ago
2 seconds to retry is better :) tks
– hezink8 31 months ago
Boblu + Frank - also - in firfox, are there any error messages (JS console under tools)
that could be related to the module - you might want to clear the console, and then refresh IG
– cgm 31 months ago
GREAT MODULE!!
I love it...I am having trouble getting the multiple calendars to show up...everything works great.
– jupiterslove 31 months ago
I think I'm having the same problem...I re did everything and I still can't get multiple calendars to show up.
– Liz 31 months ago
with this module - MII - the calendars are auto detected - with the MI version they are found using bookmarks - which version are you using and have you tried both with the same results
– cgm 31 months ago
I am using the MII version. It says to put the urls in the bookmarks though....
– Liz 31 months ago
There are no bookmarks in the MII version - if you are getting any message about bookmarks - please take a screen capture with the message and the edit screen open so I can verify that you are using MII based on the version

– cgm 31 months ago
I too am getting an input box for "Label" that is telling me to put my feeds in my Google Bookmarks when I click "Learn More".  This is the first time I've tried using this plugin, and I says "Version MII" at the bottom.  Would you like a screenshot?
– brentonr 31 months ago
Well shucks, I got it working :)  Apparently, the version I installed from browsing "Add Content" from my Google homepage wasn't the same as your module above.  I uninstalled the module from my homepage and installed the module linked from this page and things work!  Very awesome module!  Thanks!
– brentonr 31 months ago
Hi,
I got the module to work with IE but I had no luck with FF, I deleted cookies and restartd FF but to no avail.  The clock works and the following shows:
Retrieving Calendar Info...

Checking Authentication..

Any ideas?

Thanks

– cgm 31 months ago
Just what I am looking for. Works for me in IE. I prefer using Opera where it doesn't work. All i get the time/date and:
Retrieving Calendar Info... Authentication Successful. Checking Authentication...

I tried the MI module as well. I got one calendar to work in Opera, but not two (I am 99.9% sure I had the labels set correctly in bookmarks and the right label in the module.)

Error console for MII only had CSS errors (there were other CSS errors, but these were the only with gcal or such in them):

– Travis 31 months ago
I have read everyones comments to try and resolve this, but nothing is working. I have tried both versions. In version M1, it will not allow me to enter multiple calendars. I have bookmarked all my calendars but it only allows me to input one label. In version M2, I understand that no bookmarks are required. However, there is an authentication issue. It is stuck like this:

Retrieving Calendar Info...
Authentication Successful.
Checking Authentication...

And nothing helps from there. I don't care which version I use, I just want to be able to display multiple calendars.
– Jeremy 31 months ago
Travis - I am not 100% sure - but I do not think Opera supports one of the methods I use - I need to download it and test it to see if it does.  Have you tried the MI version?

Jeremy - for MI,  all the bookmarks need the same label - it then finds them all.  For MII, if you are using firefox, are there any javascript error messages?
– cgm 31 months ago
@cgm, thanks for the response. Yes I have tried MI in opera. I got the single calendar to work, but the mutliple calendars would not (yes I had labels set properly).

@Jeremey, I believe in MI you are confusing bookmark titles with labels. The calendars will have different titles, but the same label.
– Travis 31 months ago
I uninstalled what I got form Google and installed this one and no porblem everything is working now.
Thank you
– Liz 31 months ago
Installed MII very easily, changed almost every setting, and 3 minutes later I love it!
Thank you very much!
– Seb 31 months ago
@Travis - shoot me an email...I have a test version of MI that *kind of* works with Opera - there are some limitations - will work on a version for MII as well --
– cgm 31 months ago
I echo the sentiments of the guy above
Has anybody got this working in GPC yet, or even tried it ?
– Dave 31 months ago
missing some months - I was fiddlng around and changed to display 75 events up to 365 days ahead.  For some reason, it skips this coming August and September, and I know I have items on my GCal during those months.  Up through July is fine, and October 2006 through next Easter looks OK, but no August/September 2006.  ???   Aside from that, definitely loving MII, thanks for all your hard work Chris.  Tip your developer, folks!
– marc 31 months ago
@marc - just shot you an email.  first thing is to make sure the events that are missing are in the calendar that is selected - common oversight.  I am working on a couple little tweaks and will roll that out tonight - while I am doing that I can shoot you a debug version and we can do some diagnosis

@dave - 'I echo the sentiments' - I hope that is a good echo ;) -- I havent tried this in GPC (googlepages?) or desktop - on my list - kind of sidetracked with a damn new computer game!

also - thanks for everyones help/feedback
– cgm 31 months ago
vM2.1.06
Fixed a highlighting bug
added notification for opera users that this version will not work with it (this is attributed to the issues gcal itself has with opera)
– cgm 31 months ago
Really excellent module!
Just a suggestion: add an option to toggle displaying the end time for events. That could save some pretty good horizontal space, and if you wish to see the ending time just click the event to see the details (info bubble). That's how Calendar's Agenda view works.
– Daniel Luz 31 months ago
this is great! thank you!
– shiftis 31 months ago
It would be nice if it worked for the .ca homepage instead of just the .com one.

Great module!
– earobinson 31 months ago
Security Error: Content at www.google.com/ig may not load data from www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin

this is the problem I have in firefox, it works great in safari and IE though.
Tinkering with about:config should probably let it work, but right now I don't think it's possible to fix for IE since it's a "security risk"
– azuretek 31 months ago
Wow, that was fast. Just checked and my suggestion is already there. Thanks! :)
– Daniel Luz 31 months ago
vM2.1.07
added end time display option
resolved a string/date conversion issue

@earobinson -- .ca is an issue of google not having a calendar available at calendar.google.ca .  The module requires access directly to the calendar and unfortunately unless you are on .com, that is a security violation for the browser

@azuretek -- are you getting that from google.com/ig ?  That message should only occur if the module can't talk to the calendar or authentication doesnt happen correctly.

- as always, thanks for all the support.
– cgm 31 months ago
!!!!
"Google Calendar will be temporarily unavailable for all users between
5:00 PM and 6:00PM PDT for system maintenance. Some users may
experience sporadic outages until 9:00 PM PDT. We apologize for the
inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to improve Google
Calendar. "
groups.google.com/group/google-calendar-...

FYI - I do not know how this will affect MII - as it relies on a lot of backdoor magic.  cross your fingers!!

thanks
– cgm 31 months ago
I'm getting that specific error the first time I load up google.com/ig (if I refresh it doesn't show up again) when it's trying to authenticate, otherwise it just hangs there saying "Checking Authentication..." forever (I even left it on for about 2 hours with no change).

I'm using firebug extension for firefox and it does show it's hitting google.com/calendar/render but it's not doing anything.

– azuretek 31 months ago
Works very well, though i'm having some problems with event times displaying incorrectly despite being listed correctly in the calendar, and with an event repeating at a time for which it isn't set.  Otherwise, this is great - keep up the good work!
– tulipa 31 months ago
just some minor suggestions concerning "quick add"...

- the "fold out" of the quick add window is fancy, but could be a bit faster, I'd even say an instant window would be best
- is it possible to focus the text box immediately? just like at the quick add window in google calendar itself
- adding a new entry via quick add is a bit slow. Does this hold just for me or is this a general issue?
– Guest 31 months ago
Chris, You email address bounced by mail.

Excellent work on Google Calendar Agenda Mark II!
Any chance you could work on a similar module for Google Notebook?

Also one small suggestion for calendar: When fewer than the desired number
of entries are availble, can the module shrink down
to fit the number available, rather than remaining full size?
– Anonymous 31 months ago
<i>Also one small suggestion for calendar: When fewer than the desired number

DItto! That's the only issue  I wanted to bring up---thanks for the great mod!
– JOsh 30 months ago
v2.1.08

- changed the speed of the quick event animation
- change some of the authentation to hopefully speed things up

@ RE: height: shrink to fit _should_ take care of that ?? let me know
@ RE: quick add slowness - there is nothing on my end controlling the speed, so it must just be the communication itself - its pretty quick for me
@ RE: text box focus - its possible, but the flip side of that is that people didnt really 'get' that they need to enter test in there - so I added that message
– cgm 30 months ago
Good, Shrink to fit does work. :)

But you did not answer my other question.
Is there any chance you will work on a Google Notebook module?
– Anonymous 30 months ago
I'd like to see you add the ability to customize the calendar label that is used, such as something like "calendar feeds".
– shane 30 months ago
Really like this module.  one question... it does not show up on my PDA when i connect.  all my other modules (except traffic) show up on the pda.
– chris 30 months ago
I see you exceeded your bandwidth limit...
A suggestion: use Google Reader's module balloon graphics, that should save you a good amount of bandwidth (and also make balloon loading faster for those who use Reader). Only downside is that their tail points either to the left or to the right, but not to the bottom like your module's, but still that's just one custom picture.

You could also possibly use Coral CDN, but I've never read their terms to see if there's anything that could possibly be considered abuse of their service.

any suggestions to other hosts that wont kick me like that? Maybe they are jealous of my module? ;)

this thing is awesome thanks
– Dustin 30 months ago
Damn, I'm surprised you got bitten by a googlepages bandwidth limit.
A Google employee said "There is a limit, but you won't hit it". I guess he was wrong.

There is some indication that acessing your googlepage using 'gmailname.pagetastic.com' may avoid the bandwidth limit. Pagetastic.com is owned by google, despite the whois record.

– subsailor 30 months ago
@subsailor - if it was you that emailed me, I just sent you some initial debugging info -

"The easy fix: Get hired by Google! " --> not so easy ! unless you know a trick?
"Lets start an online petition for Chris" --> that would be classic

again - thanks for all your help and sorry for the snafu yesterday with bandwidth.  My server is handling it fine now, the script is easily configured for quick change, so I may just change it to a different googlepages spot.

The pagetastic info was an interesting tidbit, I found this detective work:

works fine with the personalized startpage GREAT WORK
but is there a way to use this module for your pages.google.com/homepage, cause i actually cant figure it out

– hillary 30 months ago
Hello

it´s a great module and it works very fine. One in the previous versions there was also a description in the bubble but now not any more so my questionis. Can you ad the discription in the bubble. I´m using calendar mark II
– Richard 30 months ago
@hillary - I havent tried this for the googlepages yet, I will look into - check back, I will make a post, not sure when

@Richard - unfortunately, one of the bi-products of MII is the loss of descriptions, Google just does not send it with the feed I use.  The original version still has them though: googlemodules.com/module/570/  ... had a workaround, but it took too much time and caused the window to hand on opening, havnet really looked into it much since
– cgm 30 months ago
Very nice module.  One suggestion is a memory for multiple calendar selections.  That is, when I use the "Quick Select" for different calendars, I lose my preferred default setting of a particular combination of multiple calendars.  It would be great if I could also remember the last combination and make that an option under Quick Select as well.
– Steve 30 months ago
It was working for me for a while, but now I just get:

Retrieving Calendar Info...
Authentication Successful.
Checking for Authentication...

And it gets stuck :(

@lucas - are there any javascript errors?  I have noticed some inconsistencies with the google calendar feeds as of late
– cgm 30 months ago
I've tried both Mark II and Mark I, and I only see my agenda in MI.  Mark II only displays "No Events Found." -- after it appears to authenticate successfully.  Any ideas?

BTW -- great module
– Seale 30 months ago
Re: last post -- this was a case of auto-detecting an webcal with no events within the range specified.   Never mind!  Found the drop-down to the rest of the cals -- very nice.
– Seale 30 months ago
Yes, there are some errors, but I don't know which apply to the Google Calendar item. Here's one:

Error: unterminated string literal
Source File: GOOGLE WEBSITE

Source Code:
W5kYXIuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbQ/off','false','false'],['ajZnaGZyYzRlNWY0bTVsNDBoMDUxcnBvaGdAZ3JvdXAuY2FsZW5kYXIuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbQ/name','WC 2006

Also have a few "error in parsing value for 'A FEW THINGS'" and "Unknown property "zIndex".

The only thing I'm missing now - and I see one other person already mentioned it in this thread aswell - is that the output shows up on the mobile version of google personalized page: www.google.com/ig/mobile
Is there a technical reason why it doesn't atm?
– Antonio 30 months ago
I am getting the "Checking for Authentication..."  error in firefox 1.5.4 too.
Only errors that come up in Mozilla console are the standard CSS ones.  Firebug does not display any problems.
– DanB 30 months ago
I concur with @DanB.  I don't get any errors in Firebug.  Looking at the AJAX calls and responses, the last call was a GET to ...

www.google.com/calendar/render

That returned a valid html page in response.  Actually looking like the code for a FULL calendar page render.  Dunno for SURE though since I haven't dissected GCal yet.  :)

– matte 30 months ago
hmm.  the AJAX URL I mentioned in my post a coupla seconds ago didn't output correctly.  But if you look at the HREF of the link, it's correct.

FYI.

One of my favourite modules, but there seems to be one thing I havn't been able to figure out, Timezones.

My Calendar, and google account all are set to (Eastern -5:00), but I'm still getting all the events showing western time zones (-8:00) any ideas?
– shinda 30 months ago
@matte + DanB
Are you using the google IG from www.google.com ??  Becuase of the AJAX calls,
and the fact that google calendar (last I knew) doesnt exist outside of google.com (ie google.ca) - the IG needs to be google.com

that 'render' page request is basically to check if Calendar is available

@shinda - are you using the Mark II version ??  If so, the module doesnt do any offsets, it relies on the pull from google calendar - there are two places in google calendar itself to handle timezones - per account and per calendar -

@antonio - I believe it is because it is an inline module - I do not really have any resource to test/play with the mobile version of IG unfortunately -
– cgm 30 months ago
It could be the domain name thing.  I am in the UK, but it has the same problem whether I am at www.google.co.uk/ig or www.google.com/ig.  Maybe it is doing some sort of auto DNS and forcing to www.google.co.uk, even though I go direct to www.google.com.
– DanB 30 months ago
Yeah.  I'm using the /ig page on g.com.  Interestingly enough, the module works on my computer at home where I'm running 1.5.0.4.  So I'm starting to think it's a conflct with one of the extensions I have installed.  My computer at home doesn't have half the extensions I have loaded on my work machine.

I'll start installing extensions on my home machine and see which one breaks the module, and I'll report back.

(e)
– matte 30 months ago
I had the MI plugin configured correctly for multiple calendars until about a week ago when things stopped working (I _think_ this is about the same time I upgraded Firefox to v1.5.0.4).  Now, both MI and MII seem to have the same problem--only one of my calendars shows up.  I have the same problem on Windows XP and OSX.

A look at the JavaScript console shows parse errors for display, width, cursor, and white-space, along with 'unknown property' errors for zIndex, o-opacity, and filter.

Any ideas?
– Kevin 30 months ago
I've figured out how to get it to work on my system.  In Firebug 0.4, disable the "Show XMLHttpRequests" option.  Dunno why.

Anyhoo.  It appears that the three of us who've noted this problem have Firebug installed.  @DanB or @azuretek, do you have the "Show XMLHttpRequests" option enabled?

(e)
– matte 30 months ago
@Kevin.  Click the triangle next to the date/time.  That should display the other calendars you can choose from.  Just click the checkbox and the display will update.  There's no "apply" or "save" or "update" button needed to remove/add a calendar from the list.

(e)
– matte 30 months ago
One more thing before I signoff for the night...  There's a discussion about this on the Firebug Forums.  Not specifically about the /ig homepage, but apparently this is a general problem with the "Show XMLHttpRequests" option and Synchronous AJAX calls.  See the thread here...

Any way to show "Other calendars"? I tried using the XML calendar address and the module recognizes the calendars but does not display events. These are my local calendars which I exported from iCal to Icalx.com and then imported into Google Calendars, where they display perfectly. US Holidays is the only "other calendar" that displays in M1, and even it does not display in M2.
– sean 30 months ago
just checked out the official google calendar module... it's rubbish. no, it's not *rubbish*, but there's virtually nothing to configure, which is really annoying. glad that cgm is there for the rest of us!
– hjsb 30 months ago
hey thanks for all the kudo'a verse the Official Google Module - !!
– cgm 30 months ago
wow, the official google module really isn't anything like as good as this one. i thought that once an official google module came out that i'd probably switch, for stability etc., but the google module is unimaginative and unconfigurable. keep up the good work. excellent module.

I'm not getting this module to work under Safari either. If there's any more information, authors, you need, just let me know. I have the "debug" menu activated in Safari if there's anything in there that helps. Best to write me: d a m i a n [at] d r c . m a i l - p a g e . c o m

The earlier one (r2unit.com/gmodule/) works fine for me in my googlepages

but the new one doesn't display at all. I'm also in Australia, using FF 1.5.04

– darren 30 months ago
This module is great! Much better than the offical Google Calendar module. What I like best is the fact that I can choose which calendars to display.
Today I switched to the new "MarkII Magic" version. Great work. Now I can get rid of the calendar-bookmarks.
– Harald Pehl 30 months ago
I've been using this on my google page for about a week now.  At home, on Windows XP and FF 1.5.0.4, it works great.  At work, using Linux and FF 1.0.8, all I see is this:

Monday, June 19, 2006 - 12:21
Retrieving Calendar Info...
Authentication Successful.
Checking for Authentication...

Any idea why?  Or is it just not compatible with FF 1.0.8?

Thanks for the great module!
– Robert 30 months ago
i have a module with embedded flash content and is positioned above the calendar module. now when i click on an event in the calendar the callout with the summary of details of the event pops up, but it pops up in a layer that is under the flash content, and i cannot see what is on the callout.

could you make the callout appear on the topmost layer? or is the module limited to its resources?  maybe you could work something out with inlining and such.

btw thanks and great work, im still using your module and will remove the official google module any time now
– hezink8 29 months ago
Thanks for a brilliant module.

I'm having a problem here in japan.
Date and time of future calendar events seems not be correctly displayed in this module.
I guess this is a international time defference issue though i' m not sure...

Thanks!

Any chance of letting the text flow across the whole module? - currently stops 3/4 accross so I can't read the whole text

I created a quick event. It all works nice but it doesn't appear in the calendar, only in the module. So I can't delete it.
It would be nice to be able to delete directly from the module.
– grim 29 months ago
If I have an event beginning 18:00 ending 0:00, it says though the next day, instead of the time... I think the time would be much nicer... (especially since it does end before the next day...)
– Elve 29 months ago
Grim said: "I created a quick event. It all works nice but it doesn't appear in the calendar, only in the module. So I can't delete it.

I second that! Back when I first started to use google calendar, importing resulted in a few corrupt events in my calendar. Google won't show them, but they do show up in the module. Would be nice if I could delete them directly from the module.
– Antonio 29 months ago
I prefer to use google.com.au, because it provides the option to search ".au" sites only. The Mark I version works with google.com.au, so it is better for me.

I had this module working great until I tried to enter multiple calendars via Google Bookmarks with a similar label.  Now I'm just getting stuck on the following message:

Hopefully this issue can be worked out (I really don't think it's user error as I've gone over the instructions a few times - although a pictoral 'how-to' may be helpful).  This is a great module!

Plese restore the MK I callendar!

Great module.  In fact, it was this module that made me switch my calendar from alocal app to using Google.

On suggestion though:  An option to abbreviate day names.  I don't want to turn off day display, because that's how I think of things (I'm doing x on Wednesday), but "Wednesday" takes up way too much space in the display.  An option to display "Wed" and "Thur" etc would be fantastic.
– Steve 28 months ago
@David - were you originally using the MI version??
It seems like something has happened in the las couple days, that Google changed my MI link
r2unit.com/gmodule/gcal.xml

to the MII file:
r2unit.com/gmodule/gcalM2.xml

which sucks and makes no sense -
– cgm 28 months ago
Originally installed MI but was automatically upgraded to the MII version some time ago - and that was working fine (until the google.co.uk authentication problems started a few days ago).

Just added a 2nd copy of MII, and the original module burst into life even before the new module had been in-lined!
In-line the new module, delete the old - still working fine.
BUT close IE and re-start browser and we are back to:
-----8<-----
Try Google IG at www.google.com/ig
Browser Domain: www.google.co.uk
Authentication Failed
-----8<------

– David Male 28 months ago
@David Male

Thanks - the upgrade from MI -> MII occurred by a mishap by Google cross linking the two .  I guess they thought that pushing an upgrade was good.

I am wondering if the MII version worked for you after the install because you got flopped back over to the google.com ??

Is there a calnedar on the .co.uk google domain or is it still only available on the google.com domain - ??

– cgm 28 months ago
www.google.co.uk/calendar/ returns a 404

Once I have signed in to my personalised home page
www.google.co.uk/ig
I can then change it to
www.google.com/ig
and everything works OK.

I can't set my home page to google.com, as google forces you back to google.co.uk

However, just noticed that setting the my home page to the full URL
www.google.com/ig
Seems to fool it.  A short-term work-around for the Calendar module, but I lose the Google option to restrict searches to UK sites.
– David Male 28 months ago
Can we have the mark one calendar back please? Apart from the .co.uk address not working I like to display two different calendars in the home page. The mark I also gives you the ability to select and combine calendars as you like.

If google don't like having two versions, could you release it under a different name, as it has a different functionality.
– Chris 28 months ago
@Chris -
Google cross linked them - and now MI == MII
I have put another instance of it up:
r2unit.com/gmodule/gcalm1.xml

Timezone bug?

My calendar's clock displays the correct time, but I have the option set to remove events that are done.

It usually waits a few hours after an event is finished before it disappears, is this by design?
– Bill 27 months ago
My calendar has, since of today Sept 13th, serious problems with selecting which calendar to choose. It seems like the calendars it reads from google-calendar loads unsorted and the sorting are different from each pageload. Thus Google Calendar remembers the correct index according to the last pageload. To sum up I get different calendar renditions every time.

Any idea on how to solve this?
– John 27 months ago
Agree with John. Mine will not display the calendars I select. It appears to randomly jump choices.
– Zechs 27 months ago
Same problem as John and Zechs. I hope there's anything that can be done, because I really rely on this excellent module.
– sebdotv 27 months ago
Mine is going the same thing today.
– Nick 27 months ago
Same problem here. Random changing of what calendars I have selected and even the number of calendars I have selected.

And while I am writing a note, is there any way to change the order of the calendars? ie. if two items are at the same time change which one is listed first?
– KD 27 months ago
Google implemented homepage tabs today (well, at least here they just appeared in the latest hours), and the module now has completely stopped working.

This, coupled with the fact that the order of the calendars seemed to change randomly, makes me seriously wonder if Google isn't doing it on purpose.
– Daniel Luz 27 months ago
I doubt they are doing it on purpose but I;m sure they are are not taking extra care to make sure it works. Hopefully we'll get it back up soon. I depend on it.
– Ken Clunk 27 months ago
Yup, with the addition of the new tabs the calendar has completely stopped working.
– Zechs 27 months ago
Should I correct myself, I just noticed r2unit.com seems to be having problems. I guess this is the reason the module stopped working (supposing the module does load from there).
– Daniel Luz 27 months ago
Since the adding of Tabs, I've noticed my todo-list  has cleaned out also. My guess is that there's acutually two problems:

1, Random loading of Calendars
2, Unable to load external data correctly since the adding of tabs

Thoughts on this?
– John 27 months ago
Right John, since Tabs, having Calendar Mark I or II breaks the todo-list and Gmail modules.
– sebdotv 27 months ago
I'm experiencing the same problems as all of you.  And it definately started when I noticed the tab up top.
– Bill 27 months ago
Ay, tabs broke it, and hard. Wonder what happened.
– Christopher 27 months ago
Temporary fix for the Tabs problem (not fixing random calendar order):

comment line 390: "Ptable.childNodes[prefCount__MODULE_ID__].childNodes[0].innerHTML = ..."

or install public.sebdotv.googlepages.com/gcalM2.1....

Unfortunately, this fix also removes the link to the author's donation page, so you should uninstall it as soon as an official patch is ready.
– sebdotv 27 months ago
This fix didn't work for me... shows up blank
– Bill 27 months ago
Good news! I finally managed to fix the random order problem.

Just install the following module (from you personalized page, click Add more to this page », then Add by URL):
public.sebdotv.googlepages.com/gcalM2.1....

Version: M2.1.10_sebdotv.9

Changes:
- fixed random calendar order and visibility
- fixed new Tabs problem
- fixed IE error

Enjoy, and have a nice week-end :)

– MC 27 months ago
It would be nice if google was actually consistant about stuff. Like only google.com has tabs, not google.ca, which is pretty stupid, why does everyone not get the same feature, atleast this is what I see. I guess google.ca not having a calendar at that domain is what causing it not to work so it would be nice if google could uniformily change stuff. I am sure a lot of users are from the US but I am sure a lot are also from else where and would like to use these features/modules. Anyone know of a work around to get it to work on google.ca?
– Brent 26 months ago
Beautiful gadget, much better than Google's plain vanilla calendar.

My only complaint - why does the text of event titles get cut off? I would like to see the full title, not "..." at the end. When I view it in "Day Summary" mode I see it all, but that view takes up too much room!

Thanks!

Any chance of this working on the new "Apps For Your Domain" start page:

partnerpage.google.com/domain.name

it would have to recognize and pull the gcal stuff from the google hosted calendar as well...
– Kevan 24 months ago
I like the funtionality that you increased over the "vanilla" version.

It doesn't offer a heavy user all the functions they would want, but it definitely adds lots of usefulness to the lite/medium user of the Calendar (which is me).

I'd LOVE to see this same type of functionality applied to Google Notesbooks. Added functionality like this is desperately needed with that great Ap as well. If this has already been made by someone, I'd appreciate any information on where I can find it.

Thanks again Chris!!

– Mark 24 months ago
It hasn't to do with firefox 2, it worked for me before on firefox 2
Now i get the same error as Tommy Jefferson and Mark. The scripts stop at
TimeZone: Europe/Stockholm
Retrieving Calendar Info...
Authentication Successful.

And cause the browser to get very high load.
– Raboo 24 months ago
Same thing for me as well.  It was working before on FireFox 2, now it locks up firefox.  IE stops the script because it's taking to long:
TimeZone: America/Denver
Retrieving Calendar Info...
Authentication Successful.

This is one of my favorite modules.  I hope to see it up and running soon!
– Adam 24 months ago
To sum up:  It's not unique to FF2, as I've had it on FF1.5 as well as IE6.  I'm also pretty sure it's not on the developer's site, as I keep a copy on my server and it's experiencing the same, so probably something that Google changed on their end that's causing it.

Not sure why one person has had it for over a week, mine has worked fine until just this morning (12/15/06), looks like same with others.

I dropped Chris an email this morning to report it, hopefully he'll have a fix soon.  Go Chris!
– marc 24 months ago
Having the same problem with IE7 and FF 1.5 starting this morning.  Its too bad, I have my whole office using it.

Yeah, getting a prompt from IE7 today:

"A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, you computer may become unresponsive."
– Zechs 24 months ago
Yep I have the same problem - as marc said, it sounds like the problem isn't browser-specific. Glad the module has a "disable module" button so I don't have to remove it altogether, and can just enable it when it's up and running again!

PS This is my favourite module - It's way better than the official Google one. Thanks Chris!!
– Andy 24 months ago

Has the MK 2 referted to the MK 3 again? It has stopped working
– Chris 23 months ago
Apparently, Google no longer wants us to use this module.
A undocumented call used by this module used to return an array of events; it now returns an hostile "while (1);[array of events...]" which is evaluated by the module and causes the browser to hang in an infinite loop.

An easy solution would be to ignore the loop, but what will Google invent next?
– sebdotv 23 months ago
Quick fix available - simply ignores "while(1);" infinite loop in response texts.

As for a previous fix I did, I will change the module's content to some text asking you to revert to the official module when Chris fixes it.
– sebdotv 23 months ago
Sebdotv thanks for the fix, you seem a bit more active than Chris and seem to know a thing or two about these google plugins, so I wonder if you can't make this module work with all google domains, for instance google.se?
Best Regards
– Raboo 23 months ago
As I understand the module, it needs to send a request to Google Calendar. For security reasons, such AJAX requests are permitted* only to the same domain as the main page, which in your case would be google.se. Unfortunately, the Google Calendar application can only be reached using the google.com domain. As far as I know, there is therefore no way to get the module to work on any other domain than google.com.

As a workaround, you could still try using the following URL. It is not exactly the same as google.se, but depending on your needs it might be close enough.

www.google.com/ig?hl=sv

MII.1.12 works now for me in IE7.
– Zechs 23 months ago
yep, Chris fixed it.  Not sure if it will work automatically or if you need to remove it and replace it, but it works just great again.  BIG THANKS, Chris!
– marc 23 months ago
Right, MII.1.12 fixes the problem. Thanks Chris!
– sebdotv 23 months ago
Thanks so much. This is one of my favorite modules. I get stressed every time it has an issue because it has been so helpful to me everyday. Thanks again!!!!!

It still doesn't work on my computer....mmm

The module hangs at "Sending Authorization..." message in Safari. I'm using the latest version: 2.0.4 (419.3). It would be great if you can address this problem in the near future.

Happy New Year from Manhattan, New York. All the best for 2007!

Module is broken, there is a problem with the new homepage layout:
groups.google.com/group/Google-Gadgets-API/browse_thread/thread/600617aa13543a5d?hl=en

Apparently Google updated GCal today, and I had to re-select my calendars in the module. Nothing else broken so far.
– sebdotv 19 months ago
had worked great for some days, but today hangs up when "Checking for Authentication" - even though I have verified that I am logged in to the calendar
– bp 19 months ago
Update: I have checked the FF error console - it contains a whole bunch of _warnings_ of the types "unknown property", "error in parsing value for property", and "expected declaration but found *".
At the very end of the console, there are two _errors_ of the kind ro.getResponseHeader("Set-Cookie") has no properties (lines 1682 / 2486)
– bp 19 months ago
I'm experiencing the very same problem (although I only get one error)
– axel 19 months ago
same probs here too!
– commander-ape 19 months ago
hmm, just started to work fine again... Hope Google doesn't play around too much with its API in the future ;-)
– bp 19 months ago
Yesterday it worked fine and I liked it right away, but today (4.5. 8am MESZ) it stops on "cheecking for authentification". Maybe someone else has the same problem.
– Nikodemus 19 months ago
Yep same stuck on "checking for authentication".
– elrond 19 months ago
yes....checking for authentication .... does this since 2 days now I think :(
– sylvia 19 months ago
I get stuck at "Sending Authorization" (MII.1.13) using both Safari at home and FF2.0 on XP (arg!) at work.
It used to work, it used to work great. Something changed few days ago.
Sorry to bother you Chris, but I think you may want to know this; Thanks for this kick-ass module by the way...
– Matteo Cavalleri 19 months ago
I confirm: mine is checking authentication. I am waiting.
– Paolo 19 months ago
Maybe it's coincidence, but ...
- Logged off from Google Calendar
- Deleted all "Google" cookies (Firefox)
- Logged back on to iGoogle
... and now Calendar MarkII is working again :)))))))
– axel668 19 months ago
Nope, mine stays stuck on Checking for Authentication...after clearing my cookies.  I am really hoping that this clears up, as I am new to using these modules, and I haven't seen this work yet.
– Dawn 19 months ago
Same here. Clean cookies and no effect.
– Paolo 19 months ago
mine is stucked, too.
and deleting the cookies did not help....
– ben 19 months ago
the problem is only under firefox !
under IE it works fine.
any suggestions ?
– lior 19 months ago
authentication fails using IE 6 as well as using firefox 2.003. Quite sad - I really liked this gadget!
– axel 19 months ago
now is the Google Calender itself gone.
here is a screenshot (but it is slow, because on my server at home):

I have LOVED this module-- my favorite utility on my Google page, by far.  But I use Firefox, and for the last week or so (since the Gcal upgrades), it has been stuck at "Checking for Authentication", as many other users have reported.  (Works fine on IE, though...)   This makes me very sad!!!  <:o(   Chris, do you know why this might be happening--- or does anyone else know?  Is there a workround, or is anyone investigating a fix?
– Chris H. 19 months ago
With IE works, also under FF with IE tab extension. I think problem is not in Google but in this addon.
Somebody can give solution?
– Paolo 19 months ago
I have found solution!! If in my module enable year in Time/Date Display Setup it work!s!
Somebody knows why?
– Paolo 19 months ago
I am sorry, now it works in any case.
– Paolo 19 months ago
i confirm this,
version vMII.1.14 works for me again, too.
– ben 19 months ago
vMII.1.14 works now with Firefox but not with Safari...nevertheless, kick-ass job Chris, Thanks!!
– Matteo Cavalleri 18 months ago
For some reason the Google Calendar application only works when the URL is "www.google.COM/ig" and not with "www.google.SE/ig". Is there a fix for this problem?
– hoogey 18 months ago
Thanks for fixing this Chris!  You're a champ!  :o)
– Chris H. 18 months ago
All fixed here! Love this module.
– Jimmy 18 months ago
It's still stuck on "Checking for Authentication" (MII.1.14) in Firefox. What's happening?
– tengil 18 months ago
I added some things to my calendar a few hours ago and they are still not showing up in the app...
– amanda 18 months ago
The date format is American. Can I change that to Dutch (dd-mm-yy), or do you need to change the software?
– Marcel 18 months ago
Hello. So I try to use the vMII.1.14 and it works with IE6 but not with the windows xp activedektop plugin. The first verison was wright but not this one ... it's write :

Retrieving Calendar Info...
Authentication Successful.
Checking for Authentication...

And I want to know if there is a french translation  ?

Thank for your answer ...
– Antichoc 17 months ago
The only big thing this is missing is the little calendar page at the top that default Google calendar has.

Requested features...
remove the underline, (but still make it clickable) it makes it look too busy or crowded.
Color coordinate the link to follow the color coding you have for your cal.

Otherwise this is the best feature I use!!!  Great Job!
