Alright, this seems like a must have for any plugin/extension/module whore like myself. Sadly, the only function that works for me is the "Page Back" color changer. Any ideas as to what the deal is? (I'd really like to hide some modules, but I can't figure out how to get them into the appropriate box... maybe I'm just being stupid...)
– Al.X 37 months ago
Causing lots of problems, conflicting with other modules causing them to disappear. I removed all the modules to make the page match the screenshot provided, still did not work as shown!
– Anonymous 37 months ago
Yeah sorry just seen those bugs, i gonna check that really soon during lunch time at work.

What it means to be inline?
– v1ncent 37 months ago
New version is up, it should solve conflict with other modules; if not it would be nice to tell me so.
>>Al.X :
May i know which browser you are using, for now i tested only on ie6 and firefox 1.5 ?
Do you get javascript errors ?
>>v1ncent :
When you add a module google put this one into an "iframe", this iframe is part of the site which provide the .xml module. google do that for some security reason. But this "iframe" technic give some restriction like you can't change the main google page. To do so your module should be "inline" which mean the modules is put directly on google main page. To put a module inline you should use a special module created by google : www.google.fr/ig/modules/developer.xml .
If you wanna know more you can check : www.google.com/apis/homepage/guide.html

How does hiding work? It shows me a "hide" section, below it is a strange box...
Very advanced module by the way, great job.

– Philipp Lenssen 36 months ago
PS: Judging from your screenshot, the strange box simply was an empty box. Maybe that was because the only modules I had on the page were the developer module as well as the Multi Search module, which was inlined?

Hi,
There is 2 ways to use the hide fonction.
- 1st one : you can click on the plus/minus button near the close button, normaly it should show/hide module's body. With this first method, you don't save which modules you wanna keep hide each time you arrive on google ig. To do so use the second method
- 2nd one : click on the "BM menu" button. you can find this button at the top of the page. It should open the module panel (like when you click on "add content" button). In this panel you can see and hide section. Simply click on it, you should see the list of modules that are currently on your page. In this list select modules you wanna keep hide when you arrive on google ig and then click on "ok" button. (If you wanna select more than one module in the list you have to press "ctrl" key an click on module names in the list)
And to makes that easier i had linked the first and second method. i mean when you click on the show/hide button in modules header it automatically select/unselect modules in the hide modules panel list, then you just have to click on ok button.
I don't know if i've been enought clear or not .... o_O if not just tell me, i'll be happy to explain you more or/and better.
PS : i'm gonna lunch a blog for my google modules, where i'll put some real help content.
PS2 : thks for your comment
PS3 : Sorry for my english, i'm not that good and i'm sleepy, it's morning here ...

Cydelic, there is neither a list of available modules for me when I open the "hide" section, nor can I see the "+/-" button on modules. I've now tried adding modules both inline and iframed, but it doesn't work.
– Philipp Lenssen 36 months ago
That's quite weird... it's a bug of my module, but i can't find it 'cause it's work well for me :( I've tried on internet explore 6 and firefox 1.5, with few modules and many modules. Can you tell me what broswer and version you are using ? do you have javascript errors ? what other modules are you using ?
Thanks.
Thanks.
– Cydelic 36 months ago
It's Firefox 1.0.4 (it's not my computer...). I have Multi Search inlined, but tried it with different modules (non-inlined) too. There are no JavaScript errors. Below "hide", it shows an empty input box (or similar) and when I click on it, I can see a dotted empty rectangle receiving focus -- nothing else happens.
– Philipp Lenssen 36 months ago
PS: BrowserPool.de has a great tool to test on different browsers/ systems...
– Philipp Lenssen 36 months ago
Working fine here, FF 1.5, Great job!

I saw you have successfully added a '-,+' button to the modules headers. I wonder if it is possible to add a 'refresh' button there, so that you can refresh every module independently?
Just a thought.
Just a thought.
– convex 36 months ago
>>Philipp : Ok, thanks i gonna try in firefox 1.0.4, i really want to find out this bug ...
>>convex : I think it's possible to add this refresh button but just for inline modules, which mean not for rss/atom feed

damn when i say just for inline i wanted to say just for iframe ;)

I saw this module and tried to install it, but when I came to add it to the page, all that happened was I got a message saying:
This module should be an "inline" modules.
For that you need the developer module : www.google.fr/ig/modules/developer.xml
Then check the inlined checkbox for bmods.xml
Thanks :)
So I tried adding the module that it said (www.google.fr/ig/modules/developer.xml), but that told me:
Module is not authorized for inlining, but has indicated that it must be inlined to work properly.
For a start, what IS inlining?
and how do I set it to "on"?
I use Forefox 1.5, although I've also tried it in IE 6 but to no avail.
I haven't had any javascript errors.
On another point, is it possible to use Windows Live gadgets on the Google homepage?

On Opera 8.51, if i have this module installed, it theres's a big space on the left side.

This hasn't worked too well for me, either. I can only get this module to affect the built-in Gmail preview. Color chaning only affects Gmail preview, the option of minimizing only affects that one module as well.
When looking at the "Menu", in the "Hide" toolbar, Gmail is the only recognized module.
I set this as inline, and am using Firefox 1.5 I am also using the "Customize Google" plugin, that may be conflicting.

There is 2 states for modules which are :
- iframe : It's means that the modules is include in the google page but it's not an the google page ... uhmmm it's like an HTML frame. The modules isn't host directly by google. It's the default module state (for some secuity reason). As it's not really on the google page, it's just include into it those modules don't have access to google home page directly which means they can't for exemple change the color and so one
- inline : This is the opposite of inframe, so the modules is "host" by google page directly, it's like if the google page and the modules are just one and so the module can freely do anything (access google coockie, google session, change the page). So you understand that google don't put modules inline by default, as with this state developpers can make some hack modules to access to your google informations. So users have yo put modules they want to by inline (Don't worry my module won't still your cookie :) )
If you want to know more about it : www.google.com/apis/homepage/guide.html
And i'm sorry the : www.google.fr/ig/modules/developer.xml link isn't good. Simply add developer.xml
>>Eduardo
I just checked it, you are right i made a quick (and dirty ?) patch for it
>>zplot
Maybe there is some conflicts with the Customize Google (which is a good module btw) i'll try to check that.
Thank all for your comments, its help me a lot to improve that module. i hope you like it (when it's work .... : )

I got it working, and I think it's great. However, you somehow added a new feature that when you roll over a minimised panel, then it automatically expands. To be quite honest, this is pretty annoying. Is there a way to turn it off so that you expand it only by clicking the +/- box?
Also, a colour chart would be better for the menu, as it's not easy to guess the codes for the colours.

Been using "Better Modules" for a few weeks now (LOVE IT - Can't live without it!). Yesterday it started acting funny. The little buttons for minimized my modules no longer appear and in the BM Menu the Hide drop down list is empty (no modules listed). All the other functions still work fine. I've tried removing and reinstalling it (No luck). Any Ideas?
– PAV 34 months ago
Same problem as PAV above.
– convex 34 months ago
Ditto
– KenBW2 34 months ago
Cydelic, are you still out there? Its been almost 3 weeks since I posted about "Better Modules" acting funny and you havn't responded.. Several other people have noted the same issues. Are you looking into this or is "Better Modules" a dead project? Please let us know one way or the other.
– PAV 33 months ago
Please let us know. I have really enjoyed your module.

not working except the page back function. using IE 6.0 on Win XP SP2.

Sorry guys, i've been quite busy thoses last week, much work and getting married ! I will take a look at better modules quickly.
– Cydelic 33 months ago
Congradulations on the marriage. :-)
– Pav 33 months ago
Ok, i made a quick correction it's work better now. I just saw a bug with gmail module (when you hide and show this modules "loading" message appear + list of message .. )
– Cydelic 33 months ago
When I attempt to click on "BM menu" nothing happens in my 1.5.0.7 Firefox browser running on an XP box. When I use IE7 the error message, "browser error" is returned at the bottom of the page.
However, when my personized page is being rendered, Better Modules shows up on the page for just a moment and displays the error message:
This module should be an "inline" modules.
For that you need the developer module : developer.xml
Then check the inlined checkbox for bmods.xml
Thanks :)
This has been going on for some time now.
